Isabel

Made a big mess…

Guess its been a while since I made an entry. Nothing much new happened around here since the last entry…except a visit from Hurricane Isabel! Isabel made a mess of the local power infrastructure. Guess I was lucky. We only lost power for 24 hours…some people had outages of a week or more.

Doofus the Linux box is still chugging along. He now hosts HR’s Industrial Strength Portal using an Open Source software package called PHP-Nuke.

Doofus also got pretty beat up as a result of Isabel.. The initial power hits played havoc with his file systems. It took a while, but we managed to get him up and running again in a couple of hours once the power was restored.

Thats all for now…see you next time.

Parrot Heads and Rednecks

Are really not that much different…

Went to see Jimmy Buffett last Saturday at the Nissan Pavilion near Manassas, VA. The show was great…he sang a lot of his classics and a good time was had by all.

Going next week to the Jamboree in the Hills in Morristown, OH…just west of Wheeling, WV along Interstate 70.

The King

Well, my back yard is still a swamp and the whole area is overun with tiny black ants. The damn things are everywhere!

Since I last posted I went to the “King and the Legends of Rock and Roll” Festival in Virginia Beach, VA. Lots of Elvis Impersonators running amok.

Computers

Are my life…

Its raining again today, just as it has been every day for the last six days or so. The water table is so high my yard has literally turned into a swamp.

Not much of note has transpired since my last post. Doofus is still chugging away and now has a working mail server.

I got a new Laptop…a Dell Inspiron 8500. I’ve been busy getting it configured and loading applications. Some people collect stamps…guess my hobby is “collecting computers!” Including the Laptop, I now have four PCs.

Buttons

Be care which one you push…

Doofus was happily crunching bits for the last 34 days without a reboot until yesterday when some bozo (i.e., ME) hit the power off button by mistake! Oh well…all good things must eventually come to an end. Anyway, he rebooted when the power came back and is back in business for now.
