The Outhouse

AT&T Outhouse, 1949 I was cleaning out a folder in the file cabinet a few days back when I came upon this bit of history.  It is the specification  for a standard AT&T Long Lines Outhouse and is dated November 17, 1949.  It got me to thinking about visits to my Grandparent’s house back in the day.  At the time, they had an outhouse in the back yard.  As I remember, they did have indoor plumbing and bathrooms, but for reasons now lost in history, they did not yet have any indoor toilet facilities.  They did eventually rectify this situation and the outhouse one day disappeared.

Before you ask why I am in possession of this historical document, here’s a clue.  My wife worked for the old AT&T Long Lines for a number of years.

Going Down

We had four trees taken down on our property (aka the backyard) this past week.  One was a very old Black Locust that was well past its prime.  The other three were Red Mulberrys that had grown so tall that only the birds and squirrels could get at the berries.  There are a number of other smaller Mulberry trees on the property, so the birds and squirrels will still have an ample supply of berries.  And I won’t have as many leaves to clean up each Fall.

The guys from the tree service that did the job were really efficient.  There were four guys in the crew.  They started around 8:15 AM and had everything done and cleaned up before 1:00 PM.

It’s April

fools capThe First of April is the day we remember what we are the other 364 days of the year. Let us be thankful for the fools. But for them the rest of us could not succeed. – Mark Twain

The 15th of April is the day that I, along with a number of other fools, must often send way too much money to the US Government.

And the 25th of April is ANZAC Day in Australia and New Zealand, and a number of other places in that part of the world..  I once had the honor of spending ANZAC Day in Sydney about 10 years ago.  A good time was has by all at the Fortune of War that day.

Got the X-Ray taken, waited about 20 minutes for doctor, who spent about five minutes with me, followed by another 20 minutes waiting to get a copy of the X-Ray.

Sign of the Times

A friend my mine from Morgantown, WV told me about this picture.  It shows a runaway truck ramp on I68 near Cheat Lake, which is about 10 miles east of Morgantown.

The picture has been “photoshopped” to sum up Toyota’s current problems in 25 words or less.
