15 June 2011 – They are putting a permanent patch over the hole that was dug to connect the house to the water, sewer and natural gas lines. The red truck in the foreground belongs to the tile setters. With 4.5 baths, the kitchen and a wet bar in the basement, guess there is a lot of tile setting to be done.
Going Up, Part XI
This picture was taken 01 June 2011. The house is now up for sale at a bargain price of $1,285,000.
The dry stack stone work on the front porch continues on. Maybe it will look impressive when it is finished, but at the time this picture was taken, the dry stack doesn’t look that appealing. I would much prefer a finished grout-filled look myself.
Memorial Day 2011
It must be Memorial Day weekend. The sound of motorcycles gathering for Rolling Thunder is in the air along with sightings of American Legion and VFW Auxiliary ladies selling Poppies. And, as usual, the weather here has abruptly changed from spring to summer.
Going Up, Part X
The siding was completed this week. It’s been raining quite a bit during the last two weeks, so it took a while to get the all the siding installed.
I’ve not had the opportunity to get a look at the interior lately, but I do know that the hardwood flooring and kitchen cabinets have been installed.
this is a close-up of the stone façade at the left of the garage door. The stone work is meant to simulate dry-stone. The stone veneer is attached to the vertical surface using mortar. No mortar is used between the stones, thus giving the appearance that the stones are “dry-stacked.” The following pictures illustrate this technique.
Going Up, Part IX
we will no longer be able to show progress on the interior on a regular basis. The doors are now locked or blocked in some other fashion during non-working hours. The last time we saw the interior, all the wallboard had been installed and finished. And there were pallets of wood trim (baseboards, wainscoting, etc.) sitting on the floor waiting to be installed.
Work started this week on the stone veneer trim for the front porch. Other exterior finishing work completed this week included installation of the garage door.
The exterior as of May 7th.
That’s all for now, more to come soon.
