Post-Op, Day 37

I had my second post-op checkup today.  All is going well.  Next checkup is in six weeks or so.  In interim, it’s more twice-a-week physical therapy sessions and daily exercises at home.

I’m still using the cane but am becoming less and less dependent on it.  I expect within the next two weeks or so I will be able to put the cane back into retirement.

I’m back on my treadmill now and am gradually increasing the speed and slope to get back to where I was prior to the right hip replacement.

My next big goal is to be able to tie the shoelaces on my right shoe.

Post-Op, Day 12

I had my first post-op checkup today:

  • X-Rays showed all the bionic stuff is good to go
  • Removed metal staples from incision and replaced with butterfly bandages
  • Don’t need to wear the  T.E.D. stockings any longer.

There’s one more week of at-home physical therapy left to go and then I switch over to twice-a-week outpatient therapy for about 6 weeks.

1133 Days

My bionic left hip is 1133 days old today. I usually walk at least four miles or more per day so that’s another 1400+ miles on it over the past year or.  It is still going strong, but I think my natural born right hip might be on the way out.  I’m hoping it will hold on until fall.  Summer is definitely not the season to break in a new bionic hip.

736 Days

My bionic left hip is 736 days old today.  I usually walk at least four miles or more per day so guess I need to call the doctor’s office and see if I need go in for a 3000 mile checkup.  On the other hand, maybe I should just leave well enough alone as the hip is doing just fine.

367 Days

Got the X-Ray taken, waited about 20 minutes for doctor, who spent about five minutes with me, followed by another 20 minutes waiting to get a copy of the X-Ray.

99 Days

Over three months now on my "bionic" left hip.  I finished physical therapy first week in June and had appointment with surgeon today for checkup.  As of now all systems are go.  If all continues to go well next checkup will be in March 2010 (one year after surgery).
