Going Up, Part XIII

Pouring the driveway01 July 2011 – A sign that the construction is just about done…the driveway is going in today.  I suspect it won’t be too much longer until the final grading of the site is done and the sod is laid down.

The finished drivewayHere is the finished product.  It took one work day from start to finish.  And by start I mean they had to tear up the existing driveway apron and adjacent sidewalk, haul away the debris and build the forms before pouring and finishing the concrete.

Happy Birthday

to the USA. 235 years old today!  Another year older and time to ditch the credit cards, bring home the troops and for all three branches of the federal government to start acting like responsible adults.

Going Up, Part XII

504stephen_2011_06_15_0215 June 2011 – They are putting a permanent patch over the hole that was dug to connect the house to the water, sewer and natural gas lines.  The red truck in the foreground belongs to the tile setters.  With 4.5 baths, the kitchen and a wet bar in the basement, guess there is a lot of tile setting to be done.

Going Up, Part XI

504stephen_2011_06_01_01This picture was taken 01 June 2011.  The house is now up for sale at a bargain price of $1,285,000.

504stephen_2011_06_01_02The dry stack stone work on the front porch continues on.  Maybe it will look impressive when it is finished, but at the time this picture was taken, the dry stack doesn’t look that appealing.  I would much prefer a finished grout-filled look myself.

Memorial Day 2011

Memorial Day PoppyIt must be Memorial Day weekend.  The sound of motorcycles gathering for Rolling Thunder is in the air along with sightings of American Legion and VFW Auxiliary ladies selling Poppies.  And, as usual, the weather here has abruptly changed from spring to summer.

Going Up, Part X

504stephen_20110522_03 The siding was completed this week.  It’s been raining quite a bit during the last two weeks, so it took a while to get the all the siding installed.

I’ve not had the opportunity to get a look at the interior lately, but I do  know that the hardwood flooring and kitchen cabinets have been installed.

504stephen_20110522_05this is a close-up of the stone façade at the left of the garage door.  The stone work is meant to simulate dry-stone.  The stone veneer is attached to the vertical surface using mortar.  No mortar is used between the stones, thus giving the appearance that the stones are “dry-stacked.”  The following pictures illustrate this technique.

That’s it for now, more to come soon…
